Kenneth Snelson is a contemporary American sculptor and photographer who studied at Black Mountain College in the late 1940s. Much of his work relies on tensegrity, the use of tension and compression to form delicate-looking structures that belie their actual strength. This photograph, from the Black Mountain College digital collection, shows Kenneth Snelson working on an early experimentation. More information about Black Mountain College can be found here.
