The Historical Publications Section announces the publication of Addresses and Public Papers of James Baxter Hunt Jr., Governor of North Carolina, Volume IV: 1997–2001.

For Volume IV, the editors judiciously selected 179 speeches and press releases from the almost 2,200 available. These documents present the aspirations and accomplishments of the Hunt administration. They explain the governor’s policies and programs, discuss issues confronting the state, disclose the challenges of office, give voice to his opinions, and include autobiographical elements. Lists of executive orders, omitted speeches, and appointments to state boards and commissions further reveal the scope of Governor Hunt’s activities during his fourth term.

Jan-Michael Poff is head of the Historical Publications Section’s Special Projects Branch and is editor of The Colonial Records of North Carolina [Second Series]. William Harris Brown is a state and university records analyst with the Government Records Branch of the State Archives.

There is no charge for the volume if it is picked up at our office at 120 W. Lane Street in downtown Raleigh.
