I just added some news and events information on the Outer Bank History Center (OBHC) website. Here are a few of the highlights:

Roanoke Island Festival Park and The Outer Banks History Center Join Together to Celebrate 2nd Saturdays
If you missed the premiere of the independent film Rescue Men: The Story of the Pea Island Lifesavers you are in luck! Four showings of this fascinating documentary are scheduled this summer as part of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources’ 2nd Saturdays series. Before and after each showing of Rescue Men, staff from the Outer Banks History Center will display original historical documents, photographs and other materials. [Read more…]

History In Your Hands Workshops – 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. – Noon, May – October, 2010
Back by popular demand, the Outer Banks History Center is offering a “History in Your Hands” Workshop Series in 2010. These classes provide free practical instruction on the care and preservation of family documents, photographs, paintings and textiles, along with tips for collecting and preserving your unique family history. Bruce Roberts Photojournalist: 50 Years of Capturing Change – March 6 – December 31, 2010
See history being made through the lens of photojournalist Bruce Roberts. This exhibit features images from North Carolina’s struggles with desegregation along with scenes of rural health care, lighthouses, and commercial fishing. Elvis even makes an appearance in this fascinating exhibition created by the staff of the Outer Banks History Center with the assistance of Bruce and Cheryl Roberts. [Read more…]
