The crew from WRAL’s Tar Heel Traveler visited the State Archives recently to conduct interviews with our staff about a variety of projects. Two of the resulting TV segments are now available on their website:
- “Old Bibles given to State Archives” which has the tag line: “Families often donate old Bibles to the State Archives. The oldest Bible in the collection dates from 1712.” Readers of this blog will already be familiar with the NC Family Records Online Project discussed in the segment, but there’s a lot of great information the WRAL story that may surprise even those who already use the site regularly.
- “Doc highlights first all black life-saving crew – The first all black life saving crew operated the Pea Island station off the Outer Banks in the late 1800s;” this video deals with the new documentary film Rescue Men: The Story of the Pea Island Life Savers. Further information about the film and the Pea Island station is available on the Outer Banks History Center website.
I hear that there is one more segment, this time on our Military Collection, that has not yet aired so watch this blog for more information.
