Two time-limited Archivist I positions are available at the North Carolina State Archives. The positions are part of the Digital Newspapers Project and, to quote from the job announcement (pdf.):
The North Carolina State Archives (NCSA), in collaboration with North Carolina Exploring Cultural Heritage Online (NC ECHO) has received funding to digitize 30 reels of microfilm, representing all colonial newspapers and two titles representing western North Carolina in the nineteenth century. Over the next year, NCNDP will test different digitization vendors for quality and cost-effectiveness, establish best practices for outsourcing and inclusion in NC ECHO’s CONTENTdm collection management system, collaborate with K-12 stake holders, construct a detailed plan for funding a full-fledged newspaper digitization project, and seek funding for that project.
Job functions include:
- Conducting contextual research and write material for K-12 community using the digitized newspapers
- Maintaining the digitization and quality control workflow
- Ensuring that digitization and metadata specifications are followed by vendors
Test data loads into the CONTENTdm database
