The renovation of the State Library/Archives Building is in full swing, with the Collections Management Branch already successfully moved to it’s newly renovated space on the ground floor. In late January work began on portions of the Archives stacks. In preparation for this portion of the building renovations, Archives and Records staff spent several weeks in December and the early part of January moving the county records to temporary locations at the State Record Center. Although these materials are still available to researchers, the additional time to shelve, pull, and transport boxes to the Library/Archives Building has necessitated a change of the Search Room’s public hours.
As has been stated on the Archives website since January 16th, the Search Room’s public hours have been changed to:
- Tuesday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.;
- Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (closed from 12-1)
In addition, during the week of April 9-12, several other collections will be moved as part of the building renovations. These collections include: Private Collections, Treasurers and Comptrollers Records, Secretary of States Records, Supreme Court Records, Department of Public Instruction, Military Records, Foreign Records and other small record groups. During this time, these collections or portions of these collections may be temporarily unavailable for research.
We apologize for any inconveniences these moves may cause our patrons and hope to have news soon about the next phase of this project.
