Compiled Service Records for United States Colored Troops

From the Resource Management and Public Services Branches comes this announcement:

The North Carolina State Archives has added important records to its collections — microfilm of the compiled service records of the soldiers who formed the United States Colored Troops (USCT), organized primarily in North Carolina during the Civil War.  This microfilm completes the holdings at the State Archives for the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) series of compiled service records of North Carolina soldiers (Confederate, Union (white), and Union (African American). These service records can include information about where a soldier was born, his general physical description (eye and hair color, height and weight, etc.), the length of his service, and details of that service (such as wounded or hospitalized, etc.).  These microfilm reels can be accessed in the State Archives Search Room.
